London 2012: most sustainable Olympics yet, but many failures

London 2012 has been the most sustainable Olympic Games to date, but has failed in "significant areas", according to a report evaluating performance in the build-up to the event. Successes include the widespread use of carbon footprinting and management, say green group WWF UK and BioRe-gional, an entrepreneurial environmental charity that has worked with London 2012 since 2004. The report measures performance against the event's original sustainability strategy, Towards a One Planet Olympics, which BioRegional helped write. The carbon aspects, in particular, are "a decisive step, with the potential to become a standard for all major projects", it says.
