DEFRA takes the knife to waste policy and cuts WRAP budget

DEFRA will "step back" from waste and resources policy during the government's final year in office. It will not undertake new policy work in areas such as energy from waste, construction waste and commercial and industrial (C&I) waste from next April. The changes were revealed in an open letter to the waste sector from the new Liberal Democrat resource minister, Dan Rogerson (pictured).He wrote: "I regret that the first contact I will have with many of you is to inform you of reductions to our activities. From April 2014 we will be stepping back in areas where businesses are better placed to act and there is no clear market failure."
