‘Colossal’ theme park plans cast into doubt as site becomes SSSI

Yesterday the Natural England board voted unanimously in favour of designating the marshland of SwanscombePeninsula as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), and the legal protections that entails, in recognition of itsnational importance for plants, geology, birds and invertebrates.The decision followed a public consultation in which the theme park developer, London Resort Company Holdings(LRCH), strongly objected to the designation.
