The residents of Silverdale, Newcastle under Lyme, have been complaining of a terrible stink emanating from thenearby Walleys Quarry landfill site for many months. In April, people living near the site became increasinglydesperate for respite from the smells, with the Environment Agency (EA) receiving more than one thousandcomplaints in a single week. The agency and the operator Red Industries have been in conversation, with Redmaking adjustments to its operations as guided, but the smell has not improved, according to those living in thevicinity.
