Hire firm fined for dumping 10,000 tonnes of waste

A plant hire company has been ordered to pay more than £7,000 for dumping around 10,000 tonnes of waste on a local farm without a licence. KW Purvis Ltd, which is based in Alnwick in Northumberland, was fined £4,000 and ordered to pay £3,048 in costs at Berwick-upon-Tweed magistrates court on 11 October. The firm had already pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to depositing controlled waste including subsoil, soil and rock on land at Hillhead Farm without an environmental permit.
