EU publishes new EIA advice to streamline assessments

The European Commission has published new guidance on environmental impact assessment (EIA). The guidelines are designed to streamline the assessment process under the amended EIA Directive which must be transposed before May 2017. The revised directive aims to simplify the rules for assessing a project's potential environmental effects (endsreport. com/44094). It also places greater emphasis on increasingly important areas such as resource efficiency, climate change and disaster prevention, all of which are better reflected in the assessment process.
