摘要

Government plans to make housing developers provide a net gain for nature are some way from fruition, having only recently been out for consultation. Nevertheless some housebuilders have already been setting themselves net gain goals. This "growing momentum" to adopt the approach was recognised in DEFRA's consultation on its biodiversity net gain plans, which closed on 10 February. Major builders Barratt Homes, Berkeley Group and Redraw were cited as having already adopted the mechanism, under which developers assess a project's potential harm to habitats and then provide an overall improvement for biodiversity.
