Where can Japan's beggared banks turn to earn a crust these days? The answer seems to be the rest of Asia. Of late, Fuji Bank, one of the biggest, has been opening a branch a month in the region. It opened one in Taipei in July, another in Mumbai (Bombay) in August and is due to open another, in Hanoi, on September 17th. It now has 11 branches in Asia; two years ago it had six. Last year its lending in Asian countries expanded by 30%.
