North American growth for Rexam

Rexam reported improved first-half sales but a drop in first-half profit, as growth in the company's North American beverage can business was offset by slower sales at its Europe and South America operations. The company reported a 1 percent increase in sales, to £1.97bn ($2.98bn). Operating profit fell by 2 percent to £217m ($328m). While Rexam had reclaimed market share in North America with strong growth, said the company, demand elsewhere slowed as poor weather and difficult economic conditions affected sales in the European market, particularly in Russia.
