WILLMAR'S MOONEY SOLUTION: NO MORE TEDIOUS SCRAPING

The wet wings in a Mooney are sealed with a polysulfide product called Pro-Seal to create a fuel-tight cavity. Eventually, the sealant degrades and voids open up, revealed by ugly blue stains under the wings. Until recently, an owner had to pay for some 80 man hours of labor to clean and reseal one 32-gallon tank. It's a grueling, messy and awkward job that every shop who's done it hates. Scrapers made of Plexiglas are used to scrape the Pro-Seal off of the skins, picks dig it out of corners and crevices and some shops have used rotary burring tools, which ruined rivets and dictated their replacement. It's nasty business.
