摘要

As an assessor/motor engineer you hopefully understand that you are not currently assessing and managing claims for autonomous vehicles? However, this may not be the case for too much longer. It has been a long time coming but it's possible hands-free driving could be legal on UK roads as early as spring 2021. This August, the Department for Transport issued a motor industry consultation paper, Safe Use of Automatic Lane Keeping Systems (ALKS). It is another significant step on the long journey to self-driving vehicles entering the car parc. It's fair to say however that some major obstacles are still blocking the way. A call for evidence from industry stakeholders, leading the charge to what could eventually become autonomous driving, is one thing. It's quite another to get all parties to buy in completely, from those insuring cars to the people repairing them - to say nothing of the motorist.
