Dean Hawkes is known to many readers through his various roles as teacher (for nearly 25 years at Cambridge and now as professor at Cardiff); architect (for 11 years in partnership with former AJ editor Stephen Greenberg and now independently) and as an author. During their time together, Greenberg and Hawkes produced a number of private houses and commercial projects which drew on their mutual interest in British vernacular architecture and the richer strands of Modernism. Not surprisingly, Hawkes' own house in Cambridge displays much evidence of this lineage.
