I write in response to the comments by Tim Evans in the recent piece on CABE's first decade (AJ 11.09.09). Evans is out on a limb when he launches his tirade against design review. The process he condemns as 'seriously flawed' has improved 71 per cent of the schemes that it reviews, and 91 per cent of local planning authorities say they find design review valuable. If this was ineffective, as Evans suggests, we would not have been asked to set up specialist panels to look at Crossrail, the Olympics, and all new schools.
