This playful project makes use of a forgotten space that has been around throughout Sheffield's existence. Like many cities, the settlement was founded near to a waterway, and human activity clustered around paths in reach of this vital natural resource. A memory trace of what originally drew people to the site exists in the form of a culverted river. Yet this lies behind tattered fencing, as people pass by the area every day. The architects propose to open up this forgotten area to recreate a connection with the water, fostering social interaction among diverse local communities.
