Astragal understands the future of the proposed Aldgate Giant Goalposts, a 60m-tall 'gateway' in London's East End, could be in doubt. The scheme, by former Office for Metropolitan Architecture architect Fernando Donis, to mark the start of High Street 2012 for the Olympic celebrations was selected following a competition run by the Architecture Foundation and the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects last July (AJ 22.07.10). But finding a funder has proved problematic. Time is running out - the plans need to be submitted within a month - but scheme backer Peter Murray remains resilient.
