Ever since the founders of PLP said goodbye to their alma mater KPF, the so-called 'breakaway five' has been agitating to get back onto the Helterskelter project. Since emerging eight years ago, the path of the 288m-tall Pinnacle in central London has not run smoothly and the long-stalled scheme is currently being redesigned, at least internally, by its original architects KPF. However, in recent weeks reports have emerged that PLP - and in particular Karen Cook who worked on the scheme while at KPF - has been eagerly engaged drawing up alternatives for a rival bid. That bidder is Lipton Rogers. But, given that the scheme's owner Client Pinnacle No 1 Ltd - which is 90 per cent owned by the Saudi Economic and Development Company (SEDCO) and 10 per cent by project development managers Arab Investments - are looking to progress the project, ideally without having to go back to the planners, the PLP efforts seem rather futile.
