摘要

An established industry-wide model to connect architects and aid agencies would be a positive move in supporting displaced communities around the world. This could involve architects channelling their talents through a partnership formed from the RIBA and an organisation experienced in disaster relief, disaster reconstruction and international development. If we could find a way of connecting architects' talents with the people who need it most, the industry could provide not just immediate support but also longer-term assistance-delivering infrastructure and reconstruction projects. Settlements for displaced people are, through necessity, built quickly, yet are often used for many years. Therefore settlements of 'temporary' buildings must be considered as part of a wider infrastructure and reconstruction strategy to help communities initially cope and then stabilise and build for the future.
