Metsae Wood pioneered the manufacture of Kerto Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and has a heritage that can be traced back to the mid 1970s. To demonstrate its relevance and significance for the 21st century Metsae Wood has looked into the past and identified a number of keynote structures that will be re-imagined in this most innovative and flexible of products. To explore the capabilities of timber, Metsae Wood has devised a series called Plan B, which considers how famous buildings could be constructed in wood. The Colosseum, one of the most acclaimed buildings in Rome, was chosen as the first case study. The Colosseum has been admired by millions of visitors over the centuries, including the writer, Charles Dickens who, after visiting it for the first time, described it as: 'The most impressive, the most stately, the most solemn, grand, majestic, mournful sight, conceivable'.
