MAGGIE'S MERSEYSIDE AT CLATTERBRIDGE

This building is the first temporary Maggie's to be realised, and has created a place of support for patients and their families until a permanent Maggie's Centre is delivered at Clatterbridge Hospital in Merseyside. In order to achieve the tight budgetand programme, six site cabins were dramatically transformed into one single building. These structures were arranged around several existing trees on the site, giving the building its form and identity by creating a series of courtyards. The Maggie's Centre is given contemplative privacy from the rest of the hospital by a scalloped fibre-glass screen, which wraps the entire perimeter of the building. Large windows give views over fields orto secluded gardens, and the walls are lined in curved timber mouldings to provide a warm and welcoming interior.
