A fibre coupled near-infrared superluminescent light emitting diodenthat emitsu000210mWof radiation between 1.62 and 1.7mmisemployednin combination with a broad-band cavity enhanced spectrometernconsisting of a linear optical cavity with mirrors of reflectivitynu000299.98% and either a dispersive near-infrared spectrometer orna Fourier transform interferometer. Results are presented on thenabsorption of 1,3-butadiene, and sensitivities are achieved of 6.1 u0003n10u00048ncmu00041nusing the dispersive spectrometer in combination withnphase-sensitive detection, and 1.5 u0003 10u00048ncmu00041nusing the Fourierntransform interferometer (expressed as a minimum detectablenabsorption coefficient) over several minutes of acquisition time.
