Massive Recurrence of Cyst Hydatid Disease in the Proximal Thigh: Unsuccessful Conservative Treatment with Percutaneous Aspiration, Ethanol Injection, and Reaspiration

CT scan and MRI revealed a voluminous cystic mass in the rectus femoris, vastus medialis, intermedius, and lateralis extending to the muscles of the medial and posterior muscular compartments of the thigh, suggestive of recurrence of the hydatid disease (Fig. 1). Ultrasonography is useful in diagnosis, showing the size, location, and type of the cyst with a sensitivity of 95 per cent that increases to 100 per cent if vesicular fibrils or multiple echogenic foci resulting from hydatid sand giving the "snow storm" sign are present.3 CT scan should be performed to demonstrate the relationship of the cyst with adjacent organs to determine the surgical technique.
