A REVIEW OF THE PERFORMANCE OF TEXTILE ENGINEERING INDUSTRY DURING 2004-2005

With the quota regime coining to a close on 31.12.2004 the global market opened up in the WTO environment from 2005. The textile industry had to quicken the steps for modernisation and expansion. Consequently, textile industry accelerated the pace of investment and the demand for the indigenous textile machinery began to spurt from April 2004. The increase in demand was primarily manifest in the Preparatory and Spinning Machinery Sector. Subsequently, the demand for the Weaving, Processing and Parts and Accessories Sectors also improved demonstrably. The total production of textile machinery during 2004-2005 has recorded a weighted increase of 24% at Rs. 1,667.85 crores as against Rs. 1,340.60 crores achieved during the preceding year.
