India's economic growth numbers for the fiscal first quarter could be restated to 9% due to recent changes to inflation calculations, giving a "statistical boost" to the economy at a time several independent forecasters are already raising their forecasts. The new series of wholesale price index (WH) with 2004-05 base year, which was released last month, had shaved off 1.3 percentage points from the inflation figure for August calculated on the older WPI series.
