WITH the creation of the Itema Group, Italy already had the world's largest weaving machinery industry operation, but the landscape of the global textile machinery industry has now been changed forever in 2002, following the EC's clearance of Itema's acquisition of Sulzer Textil. Even as Itema comes to terms with the implications of its new highly-expanded global structure, ACIMIT-Italy's textile machinery body - reports that its promotional activity is being intensified as ITMA 2003 approaches. Orders for the country's textile machines increased significantly in the first six months of 2002, but companies in the sector are said to still harbour doubts about any real long-term recovery.
