Sales of german weaving machines to China increased by over 100% in 2003 compared to 2002, according to the latest figures from the machinery sector's representative, the VDMA. This is a good result primarily for Dornier, Germany's largest manufacturer of weaving machines, along with others such as Guenne, which is now part of Belgium's Picanol Group, specialist builder Jaeger, and jacquard and accessories suppliers including Grosse and Schoenherr. It is unlikely, however, that 2004 will come to be seen as such a successful year, as reports from the industry indicate that despite a number of sizeable projects, orders from China for looms have been nothing like on the same scale.
