With 630 participants from 28 countries - a 5% increase over 2004 - the 44th Dombirn Man-Made Fibres Congress included presentations from 85 experts on a wide range of subjects. This article focuses on key developments announced in the areas of fibres, nonwovens and automotive/transportation fabrics. In his opening address to the congress, Omer Sabanci, president of CIRFS, the association representing the European man-made fibre industry, listed the strategies required to address the challenges arising from global competition in fibres and textiles.
