Lenzing Group increased its sales by 10% for the first nine months of 2008 to a value of €1,012.1 million compared to €920.5 million in the comparable period in 2007. The increase was said to be due to improved fibre prices in the first half of the year, the expansion of production capacity which resulted in higher shipments and the first-time full contribution of acquisitions made in 2007. At the same time, the company's material and purchased services increased by 16% to €607.3 million, mainly due to higher prices for energy, chemicals and other raw materials. Cost could not be fully passed on to the market, and as expected, fibre prices started to decline in the third quarter.
