The scourge of counterfeiting has been affecting a wide range of industries. In fact, global trade in counterfeit products has been booming. The sheer size of the industry, if one can call it, is staggering. An International Chamber of Commerce report on counterfeiting and piracy states that the global economic and social impacts of counterfeiting and piracy reached $1.7 trillion by 201 5. Counterfeit products make up to 5-7 per cent of world trade, according to industry estimates.
