Paris has long been recognised as one of the greatest centres for the production of luxury goods in the Middle Ages, particularly noted for its goldsmiths' work, illuminated manuscripts, stained glass and ivory carvings. Sharon Farmer has enhanced our vision of this city by producing a ground-breaking study of the silk industries that developed there during the late thirteenth century, and of the identity of those involved in their production and trade.
