A Little Bit of Paradise Lucy Poland goes to West Dean

Deep in the Sussex countryside, a few miles north of Chichester, there is a little corner of Paradise, in the form of West Dean College. The college is renowned for its tapestry studio but it also runs an extensive program of short courses covering a whole range of arts and crafts subjects. Temptation indeed. A useful introduction to a new subject or just another displacement activity? Should I succumb or would I actually be better off staying at home and just Getting on with it? I wrestled with my conscience. The trouble was I had been on a course at West Dean before and knew how idyllic the place was. I could look on it as a holiday, I argued. After all, everyone has holidays. And it wasn't as if 1 was planning to do something I already knew about. This time I wanted to do an art course, concentrating on sketchbook work.
