The Hand & Lock $ International Hand Embroidery Prize 2007

At the end of a day-long Symposium on November 5, 2007 that was hosted and sponsored by the Powerhouse Museum Sydney, Israeli student Tatiana Pogrebnyak was formally presented the ￡5,000 first prize in this prestigious international award which commenced in 2005. A student at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Israel (their top school for fashion design), she was one of 300 entrants from 15 different countries, and was flown to Sydney from Israel to attend the champagne reception prize giving, held in conjunction with the Hand & Lock ' Embroidering the Future' Conference and Exhibition. Born in the Ukraine in 1984, Tatiana moved to Israel with her family at the age of 14, already knowing that she loved to put fabrics together and to sew. She feels that Israel has shaped her unique style, which she has pursued since high school. Tatiana has also won the Triumph International Fashion Award 2006 for lingerie, in Vienna.
