TO CAPTURE THE EPHEMERAL- DIANNE FIRTH

Light, air, wind, mist, falling rain and flowing water - how can these ephemeral elements and their qualities be captured in textiles, particularly through the medium of the art quilt? This has been an idea that has intrigued me on and off for many years. My first finished work, 'Allusion of Quilt', was made in 1993. The initial inspiration came from the skeleton of veins that remain on a degrading leaf. Quilts traditionally have mass, tactility, two or three layers and are stitched through all layers.
