This book was recently sent to me and I have found it to be both fascinating and sobering. Although the book was first published in 2015, I decided to include a review of it in TFF, not just because the subject is of historical interest, but because it is full of factual examples of great relevance today. As the subtitle states, the author deals with the dangers associated with dress past and present, but this is not just examples of ancient Chinese practices of foot binding, Victorian ladies wearing tight corsets that caused damage to internal organs, or the harm and dangers of tottering around on enormously high-heeled shoes that cause problems with feet and backs. The coverage of the book is much broader than this, including issues associated with dangers arising from toxicity and mechanical processes, health risks for makers and wearers, with information from various parts of the world and periods of time over the past two thousand years.
