FAA to Study Airborne Use Of Portable Electronics

The Federal Aviation Administration said recently that it is forming a government-industry group to study the government's current policies regarding the use of portable electronic devices (PEDs) on airplanes to determine whether the devices can be safely used during flight. FAA said current rules require aircraft operators to determine that radio frequency interference from PEDs does not pose a flight safety risk before authorizing their use during certain phases of flight.
