FAA Allows Expanded Use of Portable Electronic Devices

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has determined that airlines can expand portable electronic device (PED) usage for passengers during flight. The agency is providing airlines with implementation guidance on how to expand passenger use of PEDs during all phases of flight. According to the agency, "Passengers will eventually be able to read e-books, play games and watch videos on their devices during all phases of flight, with very limited exceptions." FAA reports the decision was based on feedback from airline representatives, aviation manufacturers, passengers, pilots, flight attendants and mobile technology industry representatives.
