FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has called on Internet service providers and network operators to take a series of steps to counter the most pressing cybersecu-rity threats - botnets, Internet route hijacking, and domain name fraud - and to do so in a way that does not compromise consumer privacy. Chairman Genachowski's recommendation of voluntary steps to accomplish those goals - rather than through specific regulations - drew applause from telecom industry officials.
