Report on Government Spectrum Due 'Soon,' IoT Notice to Be Issued 'Shortly,' Strickling Says

National Telecommunications and Information Administration chief Lawrence E. Strickling said on Jan. 31 that he expects to report "soon" on quantitative assessments conducted with federal agencies of their use of spectrum, which will put NTIA "in a position to prioritize some of those bands for more detailed sharing feasibility studies." The assessment covers five bands that include 960 megahertz of spectrum. Mr. Strickling also said that NTIA would "shortly" seek input on policy issues related to the Internet of things (IoT) that would be appropriate for multistakeholder efforts similar to the ongoing multistakeholder efforts convened by NTIA to develop privacy best practices for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) or drones; to develop a privacy code of conduct related to facial recognition technology; and to develop best practices for cybersecu-rity vulnerability disclosures.
