FCC Gives Small Providers More Time for Caller ID Authentication

The FCC has granted small voice service providers a two-year extension of the implementation deadline for caller ID authentication - a measure aimed at reducing illegal and unwanted robocalls - according to the text of its caller ID authentication order adopted on circulation ahead of the agency's Sept. 30 meeting and released Oct. 1. It also granted an extension to voice service providers that cannot obtain a certificate due to the Governance Authority's token access policy until such provider is able to obtain a certificate, it said in its WC docket 17-97 second report and order.
