The role of wireless communications in the public network

After almost a century of two-way wireless telephone communications, economics and technology have converged to create a viable new option for local infrastructure. The "wireless local loop" is being implemented in several areas of the world as first-generation local networks. In developed countries such as the United States, it permits the upgrading of existing wireline networks and competitive entry. In less developed countries, it may accelerate the construction of basic infrasatructure.
