RELTEC Buys SONET/SDH Technology

Competition in the multi-billion dollar broadband services platform market is getting hotter as RELTEC Corp. recently acquired the much smaller Montreal-based Positron Fiber Systems Corp. The move allows RELTEC to stake a claim in the SONET/SDH broadband access market. The $200 million acquisition "is key to advancing our growth in the provisioning of access systems for telecom carriers worldwide," Dudley P. Sheffler, CEO and president of RELTEC, said. Sheffler added that the goal is to provide "the most comprehensive family of broadband services platforms in the industry."
