With broadband net additions increasing by a factor of six between the final quarter of 2002 and the same period in 2003, China is set to have the largest broadband market worldwide within two years, according to data from the Baskerville Broadband Subscriber Database. But despite its potential, hurdles remain preventing broadband from becoming a truly mass-market and profitable proposition. These include the need to make broadband accessible to a vast population, quality issues arising from high volumes and concentrations of users, and government control of content.
