Broadband subscriber numbers in the Asia Pacific region pushed past 100 million to stand at 102.3 million, or 39.9% of the world's 256.7 million broadband customers, at end-3Q06, according to the Broadband Subscriber Database. There was no change in position in regions ranked by total broadband subscribers between 2Q06 and 3Q06, but growth in net additions in Asia Pacific was 3.5%, below the regional average of 4.9%. This reflects the slow-down, if not fall, in DSL subscribers that well-established markets such as Japan and South Korea have begun to witness, although the number of FTTx customers continues to increase. At 4.2%, subscriber growth in North America was also below the regional average in the quarter. The highest quarterly change in net additions in 3Q06 occurred in Africa and the Middle East, at 12.3%, and eastern Europe, at 12%.
