European Parliament pushes touqher net-neutrality rules

A key European Parliament committee this month passed amendments that threaten Europe's fixed, cable and mobile operators alike with tighter controls on net neutrality. The Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee voted to strengthen the net-neutrality provisions contained in the European Commission's proposed new telecoms regulatory framework. The Commission's original proposals would give it the power to impose minimum quality-of-service (QoS) standards on dominant operators to prevent them degrading or slowing traffic on their networks (TM, 25 Sep, 2007).
