摘要

After April 16, no hesitation remains at Butler University, says Chief Information Officer Scott Kincaid. At a cost of $400 each, the Indianapolis college will put Cisco 7940 IP phones, capable of displaying emergency alerts on LCD screens and playing messages on speakers, in the rooms of 45 resident assistants. Butler is not alone. Enterprises across the country, especially educational facilities, are reevaluating and stepping up their approaches to emergency notification in the wake of the shootings at Virginia Tech. No fewer than 47 messages on the topic were posted to a listserv run by the Association for Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education (ACUTA) between April 16, the day of the attacks in Blacksburg, Va., and April 25.
