Here are two more disaster prep tips from a survivor of Hurricane Katrina: Emergency communication rooms - If you're considering building an emergency communications control center at your enterprise, you might want to build several across your campus. You risk losing all of your emergency control assets if they're centralized in one location, says John Lyon, telecom manager at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International airport. The airport's emergency communications rooms house laptops with USB headsets and BGAN satellite modems in case terrestrial networks are unavailable, Lyon says. The rooms are supported by CAT 5 cabling and generators.
