TELCO-TECH COALITION SEEKS LAW FOR FEDERAL REGULATION OF IP SERVICES

Federal jurisdiction over IP-based services should be clarified by Congress, said a coalitionnincluding AT&T, Verizon, Google, T- Mobile, TechAmerica and the TelecommunicationsnIndustry Association. IP services are provided from farflung facilities, and it would make morensense to subject them to federal than state authority, the coalition told House and SenatenCommerce Committee leaders by letter. FCC policies make it clear that federal policy shouldnprevail, but "there continue to be proposals that would permit state regulation," the letter said.nWithout action by Congress, IP services could come under more than 50 regulatory systems,n"stifling innovation," it said.
