India's Simple Technology Challenges

In the last few decades India's technologists have helped the country enter many elite clubs. These include the handful of nations that can make their own communication satellites, launch vehicles, frontline fighter aircraft, mission to the moon, intercontinental ballistic missiles, powerful parallel computers ... the list goes on.rnThe paradox of India has been that at the same time the country has the largest number of illiterates in the world, houses one-fourth of the world's diabetes patients, wastes more than 40 percent of fruits and vegetables grown, has highest road accident rate with smallest vehicle numbers, abysmally poor water and sanitary conditions, and so on.
