Technology: Akamai's security services are built on top of the software and hardware it uses for its private content delivery network. This network allows owners of high-traffic websites to mirror their content, such as video or Web applications, around the world for faster delivery to visitors. Because the company already inspects traffic as it passes through the network, adding on-demand security features for customers is relatively easy. Its Web application firewall, for example, can stop malicious attacks before they reach the customer's infrastructure.
