TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION IN HONG KONG

Since the Handover to the People's Republic of China in 1997, people outside Hong Kong often ask me whether there have been many changes. My response is "yes," with some obvious changes such as new postage stamps and currency. Others, such as the falling economy, may not have been the direct result of new political stewardship, but due to outside events and conditions. However, to a great degree, Hong Kong and its people have not changed much at all. It is still a safe, vibrant, and dynamic city. In a similar manner, the subject of Design & Technology (D&T), which closely parallels U.S. technology education programs, has also undergone changes due to specific government policy initiatives and/or external factors. But, if you compare Hong Kong's D&T programs to those a few years ago, in many ways they remain much the same.
