REPORT OF THE ALCTS PRE-ORDER PRE-CATALOG SEARCH- ING DISCUSSION GROUP MEETING. AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL CONFERENCE, WASHINGTON, DC, JUNE 2007

The meeting of the Pre-Order Pre-Catalog Searching Discussion Group at ALA Annual 2007 marked a departure from earlier sessions. The attendees, along with Lisa Spagnolo, chair of the Discussion Group, and Bob Schatz, vice chair for 2006-07 and chair-elect 2007-08, embarked on a project of redefining and renaming a discussion group that, while active and energetic, carried the burden of a confining scope and cumbersome, albeit explanatory, name. Because of the atypical focus of the session, this report will describe the recent history of the discussion group and the process of negotiating the governing structure of ALCTS, in addition to sharing the content of the discussion itself. The group did come to an agreement on the proposal to launch a new discussion group, the Workflow Efficiency Discussion Group, which currently has preliminary status with ALCTS. The rest of the report will explain how we got there.
